RM20 To Explain RM200 Billion Matter

Even though it was published back to October 2009, I just purchased it recently. This book is an analysis on 2010 budget, which also include 2 additional stimulus packages. It was written by Teh Chi-Chang  and published by REFSA.

Here some ‘interesting’ facts WE should know about our country budget…

1)Total government expenditure  rose from RM113.5 billion in 2003, to be expected at RM220 billion  in 2009. It is about 8% increase per year, more than our population growth rate.

2)The 2003 proposed deficit was RM14.9 billion, compared to RM56.1 billion for the expected deficit of 2009.

3)How the government expenditure soaring increase?

2003 2008
Development Expenditure (RM Billions) 38.3 45.1
Operating Expenditure (RM Billions) 75.2 151.0

It is due to (a) subsidies, (b) emoluments (civil servants salaries) and (c) supplies & services.

4)RM14 billions is allocated for Prime Minister’s Department in 2009. From this portion, RM500 million is allocated for each Sabah and Sarawak.

5)42% of 2009 Malaysian revenue is contributed by Petronas alone.

I’m not intended to give my opinion on this matter since I don’t have enough understanding on the matter of budget and economics. These facts just randomly picked from the book, just to ignite our curiosity when it comes to the matter of spending TAX PAYER’S MONEY…
